What is an AirTag?
AirTag is a small, lightweight device designed by Apple primarily for helping you to locate and find your belongings when they got lost. You can attach an AirTag to items such as keys, bags, purses, backpacks, etc. and if you misplace them, you can use the Find My app on your Apple device to locate the belongings your AirTag is attached to.
What is Find My app?
The Find My network is a service that allows you to locate lost Apple devices and items with attached AirTags, even when they're not in close proximity to your own devices. It works by leveraging the large network of Apple devices around the world to anonymously assist in locating your lost items. When an AirTag comes within Bluetooth range of another Apple device, it can anonymously update its location. This information is then securely and anonymously passed on to the owner of the lost item through the Find My app.
What about unwanted tracking?
In order to make sure that somebody cannot stalk you by hiding an AirTag in your belongings your Apple device recognizes when there’s an AirTag travelling with you which doesn’t belong to you and notifies you, showing you the exact route the unwanted AirTag was following you. Additionally, the AirTag also recognizes that it is moving along with an iPhone that is not connected to it and makes itself recognizable by making a sound to alert you. Thus AirTag is designed to find your belongings and keep you safe from stalking.
Why is it helpful to have AirTag accessories?
The AirTag itself is designed to house all its capabilities in a very small case to make it easy and convenient to attach it to belongings of any size. In order to keep your AirTag and your most essential items together it is hepful to use AirTag accessories like a keychain hanger or AirTag cardholder.
